Vegetarians, what do you put in your sandwiches? ?

Faith Asked: Vegetarians, what do you put in your sandwiches? ?

I'm normally never stuck for inspiration when it comes to food, but as a vegetarian I never know what to eat in a sandwich and always resort to cheese!

Plus it's annoying in shops when I want a ready made one, there only ever is cheese for the veggie option.

Any ideas? Thanks :)x

Unexplained and easy bruising…?

Aidan T Asked: Unexplained and easy bruising…?

My girlfriend bruises really easily, and sometimes she can't explain where they come from. She is a vegetarian(with the exception of chicken…but rarely).

I know that bruising easily and randomly is a symptom of leukemia, and i honestly can't stop worrying about it(My aunt died just over a year ago from leukemia) but my girlfriend seems to get annoyed when i tell her i think she should go see a doctor.

Ive read a low level of iron in the blood can cause this, is this correct?

In relation to leukemia, is there any symptoms that would be apparent?

Thanks in advance

Question for vegans regarding ethics?

Lexical Asked: Question for vegans regarding ethics?

Okay, I will describe myself. I do eat meat, but I won't buy it. I have a very limited budget and a blood disorder and without heme iron (iron from blood, essentially) I get sick. I have tried being vegan numerous times, and each time I got sick. My options are: take shots that contain heme iron or eat meat in small amounts. I have opted to eat small amounts of meat.

I am also planning to grow my own insects (this is not a joke) for animal protein. Most people, meat-eaters included, find that gross, but I know that I get sick without animal protein. I told my sister I would stop buying ALL red meat and poultry and switch over to crustaceans, some fish and look into the insect thing (my sister is a die-hard vegan). She, strangely, doesn't seem to have that much of a problem with my insect endeavor (she also knows that I am quirky enough to do it). When I posted a link to a book on amazon I wanted her to buy me she actually wrote "lol" on my facebook.

Here is the link, btw: http://www.amazon.com/Eat—bug-Cookbook

I care about animals, but for medical reasons I have to consume some blood products. I was even sent to hematologist about this. I am already on disability for medical problems, and when I eat vegan, or even vegetarian, my health goes downhill no matter HOW HARD I try to combine foods properly, no matter what I make and eat. I have tried numerous times because I like the idea of being a vegetarian or vegan.

So, ethically, do you consider it wrong for me to eat meat that will otherwise be thrown out or to raise insects? Is that on the same level as someone who eats red meat from factory farms constantly and never thinks (or cares) about where it comes from? As an animal myself, if I need animal products (and apparently I do!) to stay physically healthy and not sleep upwards of 16 hours a day, then wouldn't it be silly to become vegan just to prove a point?

Is there ever a compromise when it comes to the consumption of animals? Do you consider the consumption of insects, slugs, clams and fish to be as bad the killing and eating of higher mammals like cows and pigs?

I know where I stand, but am interested in your thoughts. It also helps me understand my vegan, die-hard sister a little better (she developed massive ulcers after becoming a full on vegan and claims that small amounts of dairy help with her "gastritis" pain but refuses to touch any animal product, except that one time as an experiment- a milk chocolate bar someone gave her- I myself think it's crazy to forfeit milk if it helps with pain that prescription meds can't help). She is always cold and is sickly. She has been to the ER for coughing up blood, etc… and I know she had none of these problems before going vegan, so while it all might be a coincidence, at present I am more concerned about her health.

Also, what do you think of the idea of "growing" meat (scientists are working on it) that is not a full animal, but just animal cells… would you still be morally opposed, even if no complete animal or sentient being was killed? What about people eating road kill- is that morally wrong?

Sorry for all the questions. Am in a philosophical mood.

Single people, if someone that had a crush on you went vegetarian to be with you…?

Sweet Dreams Asked: Single people, if someone that had a crush on you went vegetarian to be with you…?

Would you be convinced to be with them?
Lets say that your orientations were compatible and you didn't have much of an age difference, would you be convinced?

I'd love it if he went vegetarian: http://www.newmoonmovie.org/images/taylo but I don't know if it's a good idea for him to do a naked PETA ad.
